St Ives Veterinary Surgery is a small, friendly, companion animal practice in St Ives, Cornwall.

Our aim is to provide comprehensive quality health care for all companion animals in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We are not only here to treat sick animals, our training and experience qualifies us to give advice on all aspects of pet care.

As well as being a British Small Animal Veterinary Association approved practice, (the first in Cornwall to receive this award) we are proud to be an approved Veterinary Nurse training centre. Veterinary nurses have a two year period of study with two sets of exams, this ensures a high level of knowledge and ability. All our nurses are either qualified or working towards this. They are available at any time to give free, unbiased, advice on any aspect of pet health or pet care including feeding, flea control and worming.

All staff members regularly attend continuing education courses to ensure that we are in touch with the latest methods and treatments.

We stock Royal Canin Vet Select dog and cat foods backed by professional dietary advice. We also stock a wide range of other petcare products including flea products for the house and pet, shampoos, worming treatments and pet carriers. Our experienced nursing staff can advise you, our training and experience qualifies us to give advice on all aspects of pet care.

We have our own laboratory, so most blood tests are done within the practice. Most laboratory results can therefore be available within one hour, speeding diagnosis and treatment. Where necessary we run blood tests to check the health of animals before giving anaesthetics. We are also able to offer a geriatric screen as part of a health check on older animals, this enables us to detect illnesses in the early stages, improving the chances of treatment. Please ask for details if you are interested.

We believe in preventing disease where possible. To this end we advise neutering of all cats, all bitches and of some male dogs. All dogs and cats should be vaccinated and receive annual boosters - we send free reminders.

We run an appointment system to keep waiting to a minimum, appointments can always be made at short notice if necessary. Advice and counter sales are available at any time during opening hours.

As well as routine health care, advice and treatment, we offer many other facilities that help us to provide the highest standard of care for our patients.
